A school on Chiang Rai’s border with Myanmar will close for a week following a Covid-19 scare triggered by illegal returnees from Myanmar.

Anuban Mae Sai School will shut its doors from December 1-6 after local residents voiced concern over a potential Covid-19 outbreak.

The announcement was made on Monday after a group of Thai women were caught illegally sneaking back across the border, triggering heightened health and security monitoring.

Chiang Rai immigration police on Sunday arrested three women and a transexual after one of them boasted online of their illegal return from Myanmar.
