Symptoms of UK variant are cough, fever, exhaustion

Symptoms of patients who have been infected with the UK variant of Covid-19 have been revealed by a Samut Sakhon respiratory medic.

Dr Nittha Oer-areemitr of Ekachai Hospital said the symptoms associated with the UK variant were cough, fever and exhaustion.

"Patients usually have the abovementioned symptoms after they have been infected for five to eight days," she said in a Facebook post dated April 14.

She said coughing is commonly seen in UK variant cases, adding that the patients she had seen usually reported discomfort while taking a deep breath.

"Also, the patients' phlegm is very sticky and sometimes contains blood.”

She added that significant risks that could trigger severe symptoms were obesity and diabetes.

"Patients who have diarrhoea and sore throat are also at risk of developing severe symptoms," she said.

The super-contagious UK variant is driving Thailand’s third wave of Covid-19, which brought 1,394 new cases on Monday.
