Three Covid-19 vaccines have got FDA approval, three more under consideration

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has so far approved three Covid-19 vaccines for use in Thailand, while three more companies are in the process of registration, FDA secretary-general Dr Phaisan Dankhum said on Monday.

“The vaccines that have been approved are AstraZeneca that is imported by AstraZeneca (Thailand) Ltd and manufactured domestically by Siam Bioscience Ltd; CoronaVac or Sinovac, which is imported by the Government Pharmaceutical Organisation (GPO); and the Johnson & Johnson vaccine that is imported by Janssen-Cilag Ltd,” he said.

“FDA is currently approving Moderna vaccine, which will be imported by Zuellig Pharma, who have already submitted all registration documents for use of the vaccine in Thailand,” he added. “Meanwhile, two more companies have submitted some of the registration documents but not all, namely Bio Genetech Ltd who will import Covaxin vaccine and Kingen Biotech Ltd who will import the Sputnik V vaccine,” he added.

Phaisan added that it usually took the FDA 30 days to finish the approval process after all the documents had been submitted.

“The FDA will carefully consider the quality, efficacy and safety of the Covid-19 vaccines to make sure that they can be used in Thailand as soon as possible while following international standards of vaccine approval,” he said.
