Livestock department warns of criminal action over fake news on pork, chicken consumption

The Department of Livestock Development (DLD) on Sunday urged people not to believe and share fake news about the ban on consumption of pork and chicken for six months as they had been infected with Aids.

The department director-general, Sorawit Thaneeto, said this fake news was shared every year, claiming that it was made by people who wanted to ruin the country's livestock industry and raise concerns among the people.

He warned that people who shared fake news would face imprisonment, a fine, or both under the Computer Crime Act BE 2560 (2017).

"The department had implemented measures to prevent the spread of communicable diseases on livestock by sending officials to investigate areas nationwide," he said.

He added that the Criminal Court on November 30, 2018 had awarded two years' imprisonment and THB100,000 fine for allegedly sharing such fake news via social media.

"People who find such fake news can capture the screenshot and submit it via DLD4.0 smartphone application," he added.
