Thailand on course for 300,000 jabs on 1st day of rollout

Thailand was on course to administer around 300,00 anti-Covid vaccinations on Monday, the first day of the national jab rollout. The Department of Disease Control (DDC) said 143,116 people had been vaccinated as of midday on Monday.

DDC chief Opas Karnkawinpong said the rollout was going smoothly with no crowding at a total of 986 vaccination sites around the country. However, some lists of people who had registered via the Mor Prom app were missing, he added. Staff at vaccination sites were able to solve the problem by downloading the app to check the information.

Among those jabbed on Monday were 73,273 people aged over 60, 21,924 people with chronic diseases, and 12,081 health personnel including volunteers.

Opas added that some areas may encounter problems with hospitals postponing vaccination appointments because the number of bookings exceeds their vaccine quota.

“I would like to apologise to people who didn't get the vaccination on the scheduled date,” he said.

The vaccination site at Bang Sue Grand Station reports it has jabbed 155,028 people between May 24 and June 6. On average, a vaccination at Bang Sue station takes 51 minutes.
