TMD warns of heavy rain and storm waves above 2m in Thailand on October 13

Bangkok and several Thai regions face heavy rain and flash-flood risks as the weather department issues its final advisory for this event.

  • The Thai Meteorological Department has forecast isolated heavy rain for October 13 across multiple regions of Thailand, including Bangkok, the North, Northeast, Central, East, and South.
  • Waves in the Andaman Sea and the Gulf of Thailand are expected to exceed 2 meters in areas experiencing thundershowers.
  • The public is warned of potential flash floods and rapid runoff due to the heavy rainfall, while mariners are advised to navigate cautiously.

The Thai Meteorological Department (TMD) issued warning No 13 at 5am Thai time on October 13, 2026, forecasting isolated heavy rain in several regions, including Bangkok and its vicinity. The notice is the final advisory for this weather event.
The advisory, reference 259/2026, was signed by Nattawut Dandee, the TMD’s deputy director-general serving as acting director-general.

Bangkok included in October 13 heavy-rain warning

The TMD forecasts isolated heavy rain on October 13 in:

- The lower North
- The lower Northeast
- The Central region, including Bangkok and its vicinity
- The East
- The South

Heavy rain and accumulated rainfall could trigger flash floods and rapid runoff, especially on foothill slopes near waterways and in low-lying areas, the TMD warned. Residents should also remain alert to thundershowers and gusty winds.

Andaman Sea and Gulf face storm waves above 2 metres

Waves in the Andaman Sea and Gulf of Thailand could exceed 2 metres in areas affected by thundershowers, according to the TMD. Mariners should navigate cautiously and avoid sailing through thundershowers.

Chinese high pressure combines with moisture-bearing winds

The TMD attributed the late-rainy-season conditions to a high-pressure system, or cool air mass, from China covering upper Thailand and the South China Sea. Easterly and southeasterly winds are carrying moisture from the South China Sea over the lower Northeast, Central region, East and upper South.

The southwest monsoon continues to prevail over the Andaman Sea, while a monsoon trough crosses the lower South, according to the TMD.

The TMD urged people to plan their daily activities and travel carefully during the warning period and follow its announcements. Weather information is available through the department’s website and its 24-hour telephone services on 1182, 02-399-4012 and 02-399-4013.
