TMD warns 5 southern provinces of very heavy rain on October 25

Bangkok faces heavy rain on 26–27 October as cold air from China brings thundershowers and gusty winds to upper Thailand during the seasonal change.

  • The Thai Meteorological Department (TMD) has warned five southern provinces to expect very heavy rain on October 25.
  • The heavy rainfall is caused by a strengthening monsoon trough, which is bringing more persistent rain to the South.
  • Authorities warn that the accumulated rainfall from October 24 to 28 could lead to flash floods, rapid run-off, and waterlogging.
  • Waves in the Gulf of Thailand and Andaman Sea could exceed two metres in thundershowers, and mariners are advised to navigate with caution.

The Thai Meteorological Department (TMD) warned at 5am Thai time on 24 October 2026 that five southern provinces face very heavy rain on 25 October, as persistent downpours threaten flash floods in the South through 28 October. Advisory No 2 also forecasts thundershowers, gusty winds and isolated heavy rain in upper Thailand from 25 to 27 October.

Cold air brings gusts as southern rain intensifies

TMD attributes the unsettled weather in upper Thailand to a cold air mass extending from China as the country moves from the rainy season towards the cool season. A strengthening monsoon trough is bringing more persistent and heavier rain to the South.

TMD warns that accumulated rainfall in the South from 24 to 28 October could cause flash floods, rapid run-off and waterlogging, particularly on foothill slopes, near waterways and in low-lying areas.

People in upper Thailand should avoid open areas, large trees and unsecured advertising hoardings during thundershowers and gusty winds from 25 to 27 October, TMD advises.

TMD advises residents and travellers to plan journeys carefully and keep checking the latest warnings, as forecasts may change. The next advisory is scheduled for 5pm Thai time on 24 October 2026.
