SRT restores Narathiwat rail services after track bombing

The State Railway of Thailand (SRT) has restored normal train services between Maruebo and Tanyong Mat stations in Narathiwat after completing repairs to track damaged in a bombing.

Services resumed at 6.30pm on Monday (August 24, 2026) after security personnel confirmed that the area was safe and railway engineers completed inspections of the repaired section.

The blast occurred at kilometre 1,090/6–7 between the two stations, in Moo 1 of Maruebo Tok subdistrict, Ra-ngae district.

The railway site was among 40 locations inspected following coordinated incidents on the night of Saturday (August 22). The damage prompted the SRT to close the affected section from Sunday and adjust Southern Line services.

Security teams clear railway site

Following the blast, the SRT coordinated with security authorities and explosive ordnance disposal (EOD) personnel to conduct a detailed inspection of the area.

Railway workers were allowed to enter only after the security teams confirmed that the site was safe.

The SRT then deployed track materials and maintenance equipment to repair the damaged railway urgently. The work was intended to restore the track’s structural stability and ensure that it met operational safety standards.

Track and safety measures assessed

Before services resumed, railway personnel inspected the route and conducted a comprehensive assessment of the safety measures in place.

The SRT said the safety of passengers, railway employees and nearby residents remained its primary consideration in deciding when to reopen the section.

The authority apologised to passengers and members of the public affected by the disruption and thanked them for their understanding and cooperation.
