USS Abraham Lincoln departs Thailand after port visit

USS Abraham Lincoln and accompanying carrier strike group units departed Thailand as scheduled on Sunday (September 6, 2026), following a visit to Si Racha and Pattaya, the US Embassy in Thailand said.

The Nimitz-class aircraft carrier, designated CVN 72, serves as the flagship of Carrier Strike Group 3. Its departure included embarked personnel and accompanying units.

Nearly 5,000 sailors and Marines from across the strike group explored Thailand during the Pattaya visit. The embassy said their experiences helped deepen their understanding of Thai people and strengthen personal ties.

Thai hospitality and local excursions

The US Navy’s Morale, Welfare and Recreation (MWR) programme worked with Thai businesses to organise local tours and activities, helping personnel make the most of their time ashore.

“We would like to thank the people of Thailand for their incredible hospitality,” said US Navy Capt Dan Keeler, the carrier’s commanding officer.

Keeler described the Pattaya stop as a highlight for the strike group and an opportunity for the crew to rest and recharge. He said Thailand’s rich culture, history and warm welcome had been evident throughout the visit, and thanked Thai allies for hosting the personnel.

Operations continue in Seventh Fleet area

The embassy said the visit and the strike group’s continuing operations in the US Seventh Fleet area demonstrated the importance Washington placed on its allies and partners, as well as its long-term commitment to the region.

Keeler said he looked forward to continuing the group’s mission alongside Thailand and other regional allies and partners.

The Abraham Lincoln Carrier Strike Group is conducting routine operations in the Seventh Fleet area. The embassy said units assigned to the fleet maintain continuous patrols to deter aggression, strengthen alliances and partnerships, and promote what it described as “peace through strength”.
