Upper Thailand faces flash flood and landslide risks
The Thai Meteorological Department warns of heavy rain through September 7, with waterways near foothills and lowlands especially at risk.
Heavy to very heavy rain and accumulated rainfall could trigger flash floods, overflowing waterways and landslides in upper Thailand on September 6 and 7, the Thai Meteorological Department (TMD) has warned.
The department’s final advisory, No 10 (190/2026), took effect at 5pm on Sunday (September 6, 2026). It was signed by TMD director-general Sugunyanee Yavinchan.
Monsoon trough crosses North and upper Northeast
Isolated heavy rain is forecast across upper Thailand, with the eastern part of the Northeast also highlighted in the advisory.
A monsoon trough lies across the North and upper Northeast, while a moderate southwest monsoon prevails over the Andaman Sea, Thailand and the Gulf of Thailand.
Foothill waterways and lowlands at risk
The department urged residents to beware of both intense rainfall and the accumulation of rain, which could cause flash floods, overflowing waterways and landslides.
People along waterways near foothills and in lowlands should exercise particular caution during the September 6–7 forecast period.
