Chonburi kindergarten shut after teacher shot dead
All 44 children were evacuated unharmed after a teacher was killed at a Bang Lamung kindergarten, as police surrounded a house linked to the suspect
A teacher was shot dead at a kindergarten in Chonburi, prompting the provincial governor to order its immediate closure. All 44 children were evacuated unharmed.
The shooting took place in a ground-floor corridor at Nong Pla Lai Municipal Kindergarten in Bang Lamung district while classes were under way, causing panic among teachers and children.
Officials moved the 44 children, the three remaining teachers and three other school staff to safety. None of the children was injured.
Chonburi Governor Naris Niramaiwong and Bang Lamung district chief Anusak Piriyamorn went immediately to the scene after being alerted. They worked with police and local administrative officials to bring the situation under control and secure the area.
Naris ordered classes suspended immediately and arranged for a team to provide psychological support to children and staff who were present during the shooting.
Police surround suspect’s house
Preliminary information indicated that the suspect was the teacher’s husband. He reportedly fled back to his home in a local housing estate after the shooting.
At the time of the report, police had surrounded the house and were negotiating with him to surrender.
Police were investigating the motive and circumstances of the shooting, with a further official update to follow.
