Thailand’s Cabinet on Tuesday (October 6) approved the addition of flood-hit areas in Samut Songkhram to disaster-relief coverage, extending assistance under a 4.7-billion-baht budget set aside at its previous meeting on September 29.
Dr Ekkaphop Phianphiset, spokesman for the Prime Minister’s Office, said ministers reviewed the flood situation at the start of the Cabinet meeting, including progress in carrying out the Prime Minister’s instructions and measures undertaken by ministries involved in relief and compensation.
The Cabinet also reviewed preparations for recovery after floodwaters recede, with ministries instructed to ensure that assistance and rehabilitation measures move quickly and are coordinated across government.
The Cabinet approved additional relief coverage for Samut Songkhram after flooding occurred following its September 29 meeting.
At that previous meeting, the government had already designated disaster-affected areas and allocated about 4.7 billion baht to support flood victims.
The latest decision extends that coverage to affected areas in Samut Songkhram so assistance can reach communities hit after the earlier Cabinet resolution.
The province has also faced recent flooding in Samut Songkhram.
Ekkaphop said the Cabinet reviewed how ministries were implementing the Prime Minister’s flood-response instructions, including immediate assistance and compensation for affected residents.
Government agencies were also told to prepare for post-flood recovery so measures can be implemented promptly once water levels recede and work can proceed consistently across ministries.
