The Thai Meteorological Department (TMD) issued a warning at 5am Thai time on Wednesday, October 7, 2026, of isolated heavy to very heavy rain in Thailand during October 9–13. Thundershowers, gusty winds and hail are also forecast, with a risk of flash floods, forest run-off and localised flooding.
Bangkok faces heavy rain risk on October 10–12
Bangkok and surrounding provinces are included in the TMD warning for October 10–12, while southern Thailand is covered throughout the five-day period. The department’s Warning No. 1 (247/2026) identifies the following regional schedule:
- October 9: The lower Northeast and the South
- October 10: The lower North, lower Northeast, Central region, including Bangkok and surrounding provinces, the East and the South
- October 11: The lower North, Central region, including Bangkok and surrounding provinces, the East and the South
- October 12: The lower Central region, including Bangkok and surrounding provinces, and the South
- October 13: The South
Cool air from China and monsoon systems bring unstable weather
The TMD attributed the unstable conditions late in the rainy season to a high-pressure system, or cool air mass, extending from China over upper Thailand. A monsoon trough is expected to lie across the upper South, while the southwest monsoon continues to cover the Andaman Sea, southern Thailand and the Gulf of Thailand.
The TMD warned that heavy to very heavy rain and accumulated rainfall could trigger flash floods and forest run-off, particularly around foothills near waterways and in low-lying areas. Low-lying locations could also experience standing floodwater.
People should remain alert to thundershowers and gusty winds, the TMD advised, and avoid exposed outdoor areas, sheltering beneath large trees and standing near unstable billboards.
Waves could exceed two metres in Andaman Sea and Gulf thunderstorms
Waves in the Andaman Sea and Gulf of Thailand could rise above two metres in areas affected by thunderstorms, according to the TMD. Mariners should check their routes, navigate cautiously and avoid sailing through thunderstorms.
The TMD urged people to plan daily activities and journeys carefully during October 9–13 to reduce the risk of harm and disruption, and to monitor further announcements. Weather information is available around the clock through the TMD website or by calling 02-399-4012, 02-399-4013 or 1182.
The TMD’s next bulletin is scheduled for 5pm Thai time on October 7.
