The Thai Meteorological Department (TMD) warned on October 10, 2026, of increased rain and unsettled weather in upper Thailand, with thundershowers forecast across 80% of Bangkok and surrounding areas. The capital and neighbouring provinces also face gusty winds and isolated heavy rain. Kanchanaburi in the Central region and Rayong, Chanthaburi and Trat in the East face isolated very heavy rain, according to the TMD’s daily forecast.
TMD warns of flash floods and runoff in vulnerable areas
Heavy to very heavy rain and accumulated rainfall could trigger flash floods and runoff from higher ground, particularly near waterways at the foot of hills and in low-lying areas, the TMD warned. Waterlogging is also possible in low-lying locations.
Upper Thailand is expected to experience thundershowers, gusty winds, hail and isolated heavy to very heavy rain, with lightning also possible, according to the TMD. Parts of the South remain at risk of heavy rain.
The TMD attributed the unsettled conditions to another high-pressure system, or cold air mass, from China that had reached northern Vietnam. The system was expected to extend over the upper North, upper Northeast and South China Sea on October 10.
Easterly and southeasterly winds are carrying moisture from the South China Sea into the eastern part of the Northeast and the East, while a monsoon trough lies across the Gulf of Thailand and the South, the TMD said.
