Thailand issues flash flood alerts for Phetchaburi and Ratchaburi

Thailand's disaster agency warns of flash floods in Phetchaburi and Ratchaburi amid heavy rain, urging residents to move cars and valuables to higher ground.

  • Thailand's disaster authority has issued flash flood warnings for several districts in Phetchaburi and Ratchaburi provinces due to persistent heavy rainfall.
  • Ten districts in Ratchaburi face heightened risks of flash floods, rapid run-off and mudslides, with communities along waterways and at the foot of hills considered particularly vulnerable.
  • Residents in at-risk areas of both provinces have been urged to move their vehicles and belongings to higher ground and remain alert to changing conditions.
  • Further heavy rain is forecast for Phetchaburi, particularly in the Nong Ya Plong district, prompting advice for people in low-lying areas to monitor water levels.

The Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM) issued flash flood warnings for several districts in Phetchaburi and Ratchaburi on Sunday (October 11), following persistent heavy rainfall.

Residents in at-risk areas have been urged to move vehicles and belongings to higher ground and remain alert to changing flood conditions.

Further rain expected in Phetchaburi

The department reported heavy rainfall in Nong Ya Plong district, Phetchaburi, with further rain expected over the next one to two days. People living in low-lying and flood-prone areas were advised to monitor water levels closely and take precautions against possible flooding.

Residents were also urged to move vehicles to safer locations, raise household belongings to higher ground and secure valuables and important documents. The DDPM warned of the risk of electric shocks and stressed the need to assist vulnerable residents.

Anyone requiring assistance can contact district chiefs, local administrative organisations and their leaders, subdistrict heads, village heads or community leaders. They can also call the DDPM's emergency hotline on 1784.

Ten Ratchaburi districts face heightened flood risks

In Ratchaburi, persistent heavy rainfall has prompted warnings of flash floods, rapid run-off, mudslides and rivers and canals overflowing their banks. Authorities identified low-lying communities along waterways and areas at the foot of hills as particularly vulnerable.

The warning covers 10 districts: Mueang Ratchaburi, Ban Pong, Photharam, Damnoen Saduak, Bang Phae, Pak Tho, Wat Phleng, Suan Phueng, Chom Bueng and Ban Kha, as well as surrounding areas.

As in Phetchaburi, residents were urged to move vehicles and belongings to higher ground, secure valuables and important documents, and assist vulnerable people while taking precautions against electric shocks.

The DDPM has also sent Cell Broadcast warnings in coordination with mobile network operators AIS, True and National Telecom (NT).
