DDPM reports 1.37m people still affected by floods on October 20

Emergency crews are draining flooded areas in Thailand as 450,944 households remain affected and heavy rain is forecast for October 20–25.

  • On October 20, Thailand's Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM) reported that 1,367,191 people in 450,944 households were still affected by floods.
  • The flooding spans 19 provinces and Bangkok, with the capital alone accounting for 210,648 affected households.
  • The situation was caused by accumulated heavy rainfall combined with water flowing from northern Thailand into central river basins.
  • Although water levels are stabilizing or receding, authorities are preparing for more heavy rain and gusty winds forecasted through October 25.

Thailand’s Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM) reported continuing flooding in 19 provinces and Bangkok on Tuesday (October 20, 2026), although water levels were stabilising or receding. Authorities were accelerating drainage and recovery operations while preparing for another period of heavy rain through October 25.

The DDPM’s Disaster Relief Operations Centre recorded 450,944 affected households, comprising 1,367,191 people, in its October 20 update based on information at 6am. The detailed provincial breakdown covered 78 districts, 595 subdistricts and 4,081 villages, with Bangkok listed separately.

DDPM director-general Nirat Pongsitthaworn attributed the flooding to accumulated heavy to very heavy rainfall, compounded by water flowing from northern Thailand into the Central region’s river basins. The combined flows had caused rivers to overflow and left standing floodwater in several areas.

The DDPM, under the Interior Ministry, is coordinating personnel, operational vehicles and disaster-response machinery with partner agencies to drain inundated communities and help residents resume their normal lives.

DDPM prepares for heavy rain through October 25

The DDPM has coordinated with authorities in the lower Northeast, Central region, Bangkok and surrounding provinces, the East and the South to prepare for heavy to very heavy rainfall and gusty winds during October 20–25.

Despite improving water levels, DDPM personnel are maintaining round-the-clock weather monitoring. The department has identified risks from flash flooding in low-lying areas, fast-moving runoff near foothills and waterways, and river overflows as water passes through major channels.

Long-distance water pumps, flat-bottomed boats, mobile power-generation vehicles and rapid-response teams are being prepared for immediate deployment if further emergencies occur, the DDPM said.

Bangkok flooding affects 210,648 households

Bangkok accounted for 210,648 affected households across Lat Krabang, Nong Chok and Min Buri, according to the DDPM’s update. Flooding covered 16 subdistricts in the capital’s three eastern districts, with four deaths reported.

Water levels in the affected Bangkok districts were stabilising and beginning to decline, the department reported.

DDPM accelerates recovery and damage assessments

The DDPM is working with local administrative organisations, the military, police and royal volunteers to restore areas where floodwater has receded and conditions have returned to normal.

Recovery teams are using machinery to wash away mud, remove rubbish and debris obstructing waterways, and restore the surroundings of homes and public places, the department said.

Authorities are also accelerating assessments of damage to homes, agricultural land and public infrastructure to support compensation and assistance under Finance Ministry regulations.

Residents affected by flooding or needing emergency assistance can contact the DDPM’s free 1784 hotline, available 24 hours a day, or report incidents through the official LINE account @1784DDPM.
