Thailand’s East and South face four-day heavy rain alert from Oct 22

Bangkok faces thundershowers and gusts through October 25, while Thailand’s weather agency warns of flash floods in foothill and low-lying areas.

  • A four-day heavy rain alert is in effect for eastern and southern Thailand from October 22 to October 25.
  • The Thai Meteorological Department warns of potential flash floods and rapid run-off due to heavy to very heavy downpours.
  • The severe weather is caused by a monsoon trough over southern Thailand combined with a southwest monsoon.
  • Mariners are also warned of high waves, potentially exceeding three meters, in the Andaman Sea and Gulf of Thailand during thundershowers.

The Thai Meteorological Department (TMD) warned on October 22, 2026, that persistent rain in eastern and southern Thailand could cause flash floods and rapid run-off through October 25, with heavy to very heavy downpours forecast in some areas.

The TMD’s warning No 12 (271/2569), issued at 5pm, covers October 22–25. Residents near foothills and in low-lying areas were advised to beware of strong gusts and flooding caused by heavy and accumulated rainfall.

Bangkok and inland regions face thundershowers

Thundershowers with strong gusts in some places are expected during October 22–25 in the lower North, lower Northeast and Central region, including Bangkok and surrounding areas, according to the TMD.

A monsoon trough across the central part of southern Thailand and the south-west monsoon over the lower Andaman Sea are contributing to the unsettled weather, the TMD explained.

A high-pressure system, or cold air mass, from China will also extend over the upper North, upper Northeast and South China Sea, bringing easterly winds over Thailand and the Gulf of Thailand, according to the TMD.

Andaman Sea and Gulf of Thailand face high waves in thundershowers

Waves in the Andaman Sea and Gulf of Thailand are forecast to exceed three metres in areas affected by thundershowers, the TMD warned. Mariners should proceed with caution and avoid navigating through thundershower areas.

The TMD advised people in affected areas to plan daily activities and travel carefully to reduce weather-related risks and to continue following official announcements.

Weather information is available 24 hours a day through the Thai Meteorological Department’s website or by calling 02-399-4012, 02-399-4013 or 1182.

The TMD is scheduled to issue its next advisory at 5am on October 23.
