The Thai Meteorological Department (TMD) warned at 5am Thai time on 24 October 2026 that five southern provinces face very heavy rain on 25 October, as persistent downpours threaten flash floods in the South through 28 October. Advisory No 2 also forecasts thundershowers, gusty winds and isolated heavy rain in upper Thailand from 25 to 27 October.
TMD attributes the unsettled weather in upper Thailand to a cold air mass extending from China as the country moves from the rainy season towards the cool season. A strengthening monsoon trough is bringing more persistent and heavier rain to the South.
TMD warns that accumulated rainfall in the South from 24 to 28 October could cause flash floods, rapid run-off and waterlogging, particularly on foothill slopes, near waterways and in low-lying areas.
People in upper Thailand should avoid open areas, large trees and unsecured advertising hoardings during thundershowers and gusty winds from 25 to 27 October, TMD advises.
TMD’s daily outlook places northeastern provinces under heavy rain warnings on 25 October, with northern, central and eastern areas also affected on 26 October. Bangkok and surrounding provinces are listed for heavy rain on both 26 and 27 October.
TMD warns that waves in the Gulf of Thailand and Andaman Sea could exceed two metres in areas with thundershowers. Mariners should navigate cautiously and avoid sailing through those areas.
TMD advises residents and travellers to plan journeys carefully and keep checking the latest warnings, as forecasts may change. The next advisory is scheduled for 5pm Thai time on 24 October 2026.
