Thailand edge South Korea to reach Asian volleyball quarter-finals
Thailand withstood South Korea’s two-set fightback to win 3-2 in Fukuoka and claim a second successive Pool C victory at the AVC Men’s Volleyball Continental 2026.

At the AVC Men’s Volleyball Continental 2026, the Asian men’s championship in Fukuoka, Japan, Thailand’s men’s national volleyball team faced South Korea in their second Pool C match on Monday (September 7, 2026).
Both teams entered the match after winning their opening fixtures.
Thailand beat Qatar in straight sets, 3-0, while South Korea defeated Chinese Taipei 3-1, meaning the winner would immediately secure a place in the last eight.
Thailand made an excellent start, attacking powerfully, defending solidly and combining well to take a 2-0 lead with 25-18 and 25-16 wins.
South Korea then adjusted their approach and took the third set 25-20, narrowing the deficit to 2-1.
The fourth set produced an entertaining, closely fought contest, but South Korea proved more decisive, winning 25-22 to level the match at 2-2 and force a deciding set.
The decider remained tight, with the teams locked at 10-10 before Thailand proved steadier to win 15-12.
The final score was 3-2 to Thailand, with the sets ending 25-18, 25-16, 20-25, 22-25 and 15-12.
It was Thailand’s second successive victory and guaranteed their place in the last eight.
Thailand will face Chinese Taipei in their final preliminary-round match on Wednesday (September 9), at 11.30am.
