Justice denied to innocent victims

Justice denied to innocent victims

It is often the casual, throwaway remarks that are the most revealing of someone's inner thought processes. Womble (Letters, September 5) refers to the BBC's latest documentary as a "sob story".

Given that one of this programme's central themes was the struggle by two determined women to find out why their loved ones were killed during May last year, who killed them, and when the killers will be brought to justice, this remark is chilling in its callousness, tastelessness and complete and utter lack of compassion. All the more so, as the deceased were not part of the "red-shirt mob" or clad in black, but a press photographer doing his job, and a young medical volunteer doing hers.

Needless to say, these bereaved ladies have so far met with nothing but official denials and evasion in their search for the truth. They deserve better, as do the families of all those killed, and ought to be spared the ignominy of disparaging remarks from Womble and those of a like mind.
