Singha Honda total team hopes to land on Sepang podium

Singha Honda Total Team Thailand are hoping to land on the podium in their second outing in national colours in the Malaysia Merdeka Endurance Race (MMER) next week.

MMER, to be held at the Sepang International Circuit on September 16 and 17, is acknowledged as the biggest 12-hour race in the continent.

Introduced at the turn of the millennium, the MMER has been an instant hit with international teams and drivers from world renown endurance series including the LeMans 24 Hours, Nurburgring 24 Hours and Dubai 24 Hours making their way to Sepang each year.

In an unprecedented move, the 12th edition of the prestigious Sepang MMER 12-hour endurance race is held this month to coincide with the Malaysian Day celebrations on September 16.

Piti Bhirombhakdi, one of the team's three drivers who are required to take turns driving the car over the 12-hour race, is determined to deliver a better result than the team's debut race under the "Race for Thailand" project at Macau Grand Prix last year. He will compete in the 2000cc Production Car division along with Wuthikorn Inthornphuwasak and Apathorn Kannasutra.

"Our team have gained a lot of racing experience from Macau Grand Prix. We've used it to help develop our team. I'm confident that we're nearly ready in all aspects from the drivers' preparations to the driving plan.

"My team and I are really determined to achieve the best possible result in our first race at the tournament. We set a podium finish as our target," said Piti, who finished a disappointing 14th place in the Touring Car category in Macau.  The "Race For Thailand" campaign was initiated by Royal Automobile Association of Thailand and the Sports Authority of Thailand to enhance the competitiveness of Thailand's racing team and promote Thai drivers on the world stage.
