Amazing Thailand Grand Sale 2011 spending up 34%

Amazing Thailand Grand Sale, a campaign of Tourism Authority of Thailand, was wrapped up with success as spending by international shoppers during the 3-month period increased 34 per cent from last year.

 Totally, the shoppers spent Bt27.4 billion through Visa cards during June to August. Visa cardholders from the US, Australia and the UK were the top three spenders and the top spend categories, excluding airfare and accommodation, were jewellery, hospitals and duty-free.

 

 According to Visa International, which helped promoted the campaign, special promotions are launched to boost spending. The key source markets included Singapore, Vietnam, the Philippines, Mainland China, Japan, Taiwan, South Korea as well as Oman, the UAE, Bahrain and Qatar. Singapore and the UAE, featured in the top ten spend list. Asia Pacific countries also featured strongly in this year's Sale with Australia, Japan and Singapore in the top ten while other countries such as Germany bounced back with increased spending this year.

 

"The results show that Thailand is regarded as a premier shopping destination in Asia and Visa is once again delighted to have been able to work with our partners to design and deliver another successful Amazing Thailand Grand Sale," said Somboon Krobteeranon, Visa Country Manager, Thailand.

 

TAT Governor Suraphon Svetasreni said that for 13 years, this year's campaign is the most successful, especially after the recent global recession.
