Super cars not so smart

Super cars not so smart

Outspoken MP Chuwit Kamolvisit is trying to convince his eldest son "Ton" Tontrakul that a city car is superior to a "super car".

While the offspring of other politicians and wealthy people drive Ferraris or Porsches and are accompanied by bodyguards, Chuwit thinks Ton would be better off driving something less flashy.

Keeping a low profile is essential to survival, he says.

"If you have a super car, you can't help but get eyeballed when you park it at the pub. People will always remember you," says the former massage-parlour tycoon. "And you can't escape fast if there's trouble."

With a small car, like a Honda Jazz, you can park right out front and no one will notice. And if you need to make a quick exit, just jump in and you're gone, Chuwit reasons.

He's probably learned from the notorious sons of other politicians that if his son runs into a problem it'll come back to hurt him - even if it's just a matter of being in the wrong place at the wrong time.

"I'm in the spotlight," Chuwit says. "If there's an incident, like a pub brawl, even if you're not involved, you will be attacked because you are my son."

Sound bites

Well-known for his gift of the gab, comedian Udom "Nose" Taepanich can easily put on a one-man stage show, but it's a different challenge when he's making a TV commercial that runs for less than a minute.

His new spot for the Pizza Company has him doing one of his trademark rants about women to the pizza-delivery man. Production of the advert started at 5am and Nose talked all day long, constantly improvising lines.

The delivery dude, trying to follow the script, was so confused by Nose's endless jabbering, he didn't know what to think.

It worked out in the end, even if the pizza was cold and the crew were tired. The director got the shot he wanted of a befuddled pizza guy, and Nose ought to be pleased - there's no way his sponsor can accuse him of shortchanging them by not saying enough.
