Dept help for start-ups, flood-hit firms

The Business Development Department is allowing new businesses to register at its head office in Nonthaburi, while preparing various types of franchises so flood victims can start up a venture quickly.

“The department will continue to bring out measures to help relieve the impact on businesses after the government recently allocated a budget of Bt3.25 million to help affected enterprises to recover soon,” Deputy Commerce Minister Siriwat Kachornprasart said yesterday.
The department is drafting a plan to assist businesses affected by the flood so they can resume operations as soon as possible.
As an urgent measure, new businesses can register on the 14th floor of the department’s head office after many provincial businesses had to shut down temporarily.
The department has set up a 1570 hotline with information on registering new businesses during office hours.
It has also relaxed regulations so corporations, private companies and small businesses can delay submitting their financial statements during the flooding.
After the flood waters have receded, the department will promote franchises, which require little capital and previous management experience, so new entrepreneurs can easily start their own business with low risk.
The franchises to be introduced include Mae Oey for Thai sweets, Mobile Steak, Kra-tum Ban noodles, Tamarind House and Wincent, an automatic bottled-water machine and postal service.
The department is also providing a consulting service called the Biz Club in 11 provinces for those who want to learn about starting up and operating a new business.
