Aid continue to flow to flood victims

The Thai Stock Market Flood Relief Fund, led by the Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET), on Monday donated 6,000 survival bags and other aids to flood victims, including 100 boats and 16 floating toilets, worth Bt6 million to The Thai Red Cross Society to help flood victims.
Since the fund was established, it has helped meet people’s immediate needs by coordinating with organisations to hold many activities, such as offering funds to His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej for flood-related activities, sponsoring food and goods to flood victims in many provinces, and providing mobile clinics for victims. It also contributed funds to the military and police officers due to their selfless and dedicated help to flood victims.
 The fund, a cooperative effort of the Thai capital market’s organisations, aims to help meet the
victims’ immediate needs and support rehabilitation in the medium and long terms.
 “There are still many suffering areas that are hard to approach and many flood victims waiting for help,” said SET chairman Sompol Kiatphaibool.

Vocational Education Commission is coming up with a scheme to extend professional assistance from vocational students nationwide to the flood victims. The commission Hotline 1156 is now open for requests for maintenance services which cover electrical appliances, tractor engines and motorcycles.
 The agency has so far opened 84 shelters, to accommodate 14,782 people. 
 According to secretary-general Chaiyapruek Serirak, students can receive academic credit for the hours of volunteer services they provide. Now, the students are cooking 54,000 box meals a day. They have also made 1,786 floating toilets and 104 boats, which were given to the Flood Relief Operations Centre.
 A number of 76 “Fix it Centre” mobile units will be available at all provinces, aside from 20 more centres each in 62 provinces

Big C Supercentre is distributing water-neutralising powder to flood victims since Monday, to ease the shortage of drinking water.
 Big C, in cooperation with Princess Pa Foundation, Thai Red Cross Society and Procter & Gamble (Thailand), will distribute a total of 60,000 sachets of “Pur” powder. The Procter & Gamble product, which is certified by research institutes, can turn polluted water into drinking water.
 The product will be distributed by 19 Big C branches, all of which are in flood-hit areas. Each branch has been allocated 3,200 sachets. See the full list of participating branches on www.csrthailand.net.
 
Dell Inc last week donated Bt10.7 million to the Unicef Thailand Disaster Relief, to help provide emergency relief and post-flood assistance to affected children and families in the areas of health, water supply and sanitation, hygiene promotion and education.
 “Our thoughts and concerns are with our fellow Thai people and businesses as they face the challenges of rebuilding their homes and companies and we hope to provide aid to them through our contributions, said Anothai Wettayakorn, managing director, Dell Corporation (Thailand) and general manager for Indochina.
 Dell’s contribution to Thailand’s flood-relief effort is an example of the key tenets associated with the company’s Powering the Possible strategy, he said.

ASUStek Computer (Thailand), in cooperation with www.Overclockzone.com, Hardware House International and Hualian Computer, launched a free diagnosis and maintenance service for all brands of notebooks and netbooks in Nakhon Sawan last week, from Saturday to Monday.
In case of parts replacement, it offered a 30-per-cent discount.
 The company plans to launch a similar service for flood victims in Ayutthaya, Nonthaburi and Pathum Thani.

Central Pattana has joined hands with Wipe The Tide, a grouping of foreign Facebook users in Thailand, to raise funds for flood victims.
 To raise funds, the foreigners are wiping cars at Bangkok intersections.
 The project was kicked off on November 13 at the Ratchaprasong intersection – in front of CentralWorld. As of November 20, donations reached Bt1.45 million. All the proceeds will be presented to organisations which are launching projects to directly aid flood victims.  Follow their activities at www.bangkokvanguards.com.

Ratchaburi Electricity Generating Holding recently presented Bt1 million financial support and a fleet of 100 flat-bottom boats to the Energy Ministry. Coupled with help from other energy companies, the items and cash donation would be distributed to flood victims in Bangkok and peripheral areas.
Donations also included 20 motored boats by Thai Oil which had earlier distributed 1,000 relief bags, 500 food boxes, 2,000 rice bags, and 2,100 bottles of drinking water to flood victims in Ayutthaya.  PTT recently also kicked off the relief caravan, to help people in Phitsanulok, Nakhon Sawan, Angthong, Ayutthaya and Lop Buri, aside from the distribution of 1 million EM balls to neutralise polluted water. The first 200,000 EM balls were distributed to 12 organisations, including the Thammasat University Rangsit Campus.

The Pharmaceutical Research & Manufacturers Association (PReMA) recently donated Bt100,000 to the Thai Chamber of Commerce to help flood victims. The donation will be used for survival kits which will be distributed to flood victims through provincial chambers of commerce in the flood-affected areas throughout Thailand.          

Holiday Inn Resort Phuket Mai Khao Beach, led by Simon Morley, general manager, and the management team contributed 500 litres of Effective Micro-organism water to the Regional Environmental Office 15, Phuket, to help the government unit’s project to neutralise polluted water in Bangkok and 21 provinces in the Central region.
 
Dusit Thani Pattaya has been making the rounds in the city and in Chon Buri to deliver relief items for those affected by the recent flooding in Bangkok and other areas, apart from cash donations from the five-star resort’s staff and management.
  Some of the flood victims are currently sheltered at different evacuation centres in the province, including various temples, schools and universities.  Dusit Thani Pattaya recently donated 100 sets of towels, bed sheets and other clothing  items as well as relief goods to the flood-hit families at the Wat Yan in Pattaya. On October 31, another 300 sets were provided for those taking shelter in the Chon Buri Education Centre.

Office workers at four buildings in Bangkok – Cyber World, Pantip Plaza, Digital Gateway and Empire Tower – have donated Bt138,947 in cash and necessity items to flood victims. The cash and items were distributed through Nation Multimedia Group.
