Motorola's new tablet set for Thai sales next year

Motorola says it will market its new tablet computer, ET1, designed for the enterprise market and focusing on retail, logistics, manufacturing, healthcare, utilities and the government sector, in Thailand next year.

Siwaj Rojanatemsak, regional sales manager of Motorola Solutions (Thailand), said the ET1 would come with Motorola RhoElements, a Web-based application framework designed to allow businesses to develop and deploy Web-based applications quickly and cost-effectively on existing Motorola Windows Embedded Handheld (formerly known as Windows Mobile) and Windows Embedded Compact (WinCE) mobile computers.
The ET1 also features an optional barcode scanner and magnetic-stripe reader, hot-swappable battery packs, and secure system software. The Wi-Fi-enabled ET1 is password-protected so it can be easily shared and instantly provisioned for multiple users.
“I think the ET1 is the first enterprise tablet PC. The price will start at US$1,000 [Bt31,000] without enterprise applications, and will be available in the market early next year,” Siwaj said.
He said people now used mobile-phone support at their work and in their daily life. Therefore, the population of mobile workers in the enterprise market will grow from 920 million this year to 1.19 billion by 2013 as people use their mobile phones to support their work in such ways as increasing sales and productivity, engaging their customers and accessing their work with real-time asset visibility. The industry forecast is that about 36 per cent of workers around the world will become mobile by 2013. This makes managing total cost of ownership and life-cycle support key concerns in purchasing decisions when considering next-generation mobile solutions.
He said the firm would team up with software developers to create applications to support the enterprise market so that it can expand its business.
