Facebook users were asked to share their views on Businessman of the Year, and a number pointed to Tan Passakornnatee of the Ichitan green tea brand.
Asked for their reasons for selecting certain business leaders for the honour, some said that during the flood crisis, those making relief efforts did not limit them to their employees but also extended them to other flood victims. Such efforts contribute to the realisation that all must be united for a bright future.
Those who proposed Tan noted that although he was one of the flood victims and his new Bt2.4-billion factory in Rojana Industrial Park, Ayutthaya, was submerged, he still provided not only financial support and other contributions, but led his family and staff as volunteers to help others.
However, other people commenting on Twitter said they realised than Kan Trakulhoon, president and chief executive officer of Siam Cement Group, had provided significant contributions to both his staff and the public. The group’s contributions through its social-responsibility programme compare to its estimated annual sales of Bt334 billion this year.
