Citi Thailand welcomes new chief
Citi on Monday announced the appointment of Darren Buckley as Citi Country Officer (CCO) and head of its Institutional Business at its Thai franchise.
Buckley will report to Michael Zink, Citi’s ASEAN Head based in Singapore.
“Darren brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to this role and we are pleased that he will be returning to Thailand to drive the growth of our institutional and consumer businesses in the country,” said Stephen Bird, Citi’s Asia CEO.
Buckley joined Citi in London in 1992 where he initially served in Central Eastern Europe, Middle East & Africa. After a four year assignment in New York, Darren moved to Asia in 1999, first in regional leadership roles based in Singapore, then as the Chief Operating Officer (COO) in Thailand before moving to Japan in 2004. Darren has held a variety of roles in Japan, including Chief Operating Officer and Chief Executive Officer of Citi’s consumer finance business, Director of Citi Cards, and most recently, Citi Japan Country Head, President and CEO of Citibank Japan Ltd., President and CEO of Citigroup Japan Holdings Corp. and Director of Citigroup Global Markets Japan Inc.
Buckley graduated in 1987 from the University of East Anglia in the United Kingdom with a bachelor of science in Business Finance and Economics. He is also a qualified UK Chartered Accountant. In 2008, he was appointed as honorary Professor of China’s Dalian University of Foreign Languages and of Harbin University.
