GHB aims to boost loans to property projects' clients

Government Housing Bank is seeking collaboration from property developers to boost lending under the government's first-home buyer scheme.

Worawit Chailimpamontri, president of the state-owned bank which plays a key role in the scheme, said that the bank has so far loaned around Bt3 billion since the scheme was launched early this year. From the total loan target of Bt20 billion, it plans to extend Bt10 billion within this year.
An offensive strategy is necessary, he said. Instead of waiting for loan applications, the bank may need to contact with developers which sell housing units worth Bt1 million or lower.
These include LPN Development Plc, the condominium developer which plans about 1,000 units with price tags of about Bt800,000-Bt900,000.
The bank will also move on to extend loans to self-employed workers who cannot produce pay slips. Worawit said this would compliment the first-home buyer scheme, allowing them an opportunity to buy furniture.
