Vegetarian restaurants, can they be trusted?
In your features section ("Vegetarians Chew Carefully", yesterday) it is noted that the "vegetarian" food you eat in Korean restaurants may not really be totally vegetarian. The same could be said of Thai restaurants, which are notorious for putting fish
I have read comments on websites claiming that even some vegetarian restaurants in Thailand use fish sauce. But based on my own research I find that generally vegetarian restaurants in Thailand don’t do that and can be trusted.
But if you’re in a non-vegetarian restaurant in Thailand, vegetarians should specifically tell them “no fish sauce” and hope for the best.
