Kubota goes after mini excavator market

Kubota goes after mini excavator market

Siam Kubota Corp plans to sell 1,000 mini-excavators in Thailand by the end of this year to serve small-scale construction for factory, industrial and agricultural use.

“We see the potential in the mini-excavator market in Thailand, as it can be used in small-scale construction such as home building, plumbing-system set-up or work in areas that big excavators cannot enter,” said Chamornwut Tamnarnchit, marketing division manager.
“Most vehicles used in this sector are second-hand vehicles imported from overseas, and because of their condition, their capacity is limited. They also come with high maintenance costs and need to be fixed constantly. Parts for second-hand machinery is hard to find as well as expensive. These factors result in increasing demand for new vehicles.
“Moreover, homes need to be repaired and prepared for flooding or other reasons. The government and private sectors are also planning many projects in this year, so we believe that there is room for growth in this sector,” he said.
Mini-excavators are those weighing 3-8 tonnes and, Kubota’s models will be unveiled at Constech 2012, the Thailand Construction Machinery, Equipment and Technology Exhibition, from September 19-21 at Impact Muang Thong Thani. Imported from Japan, they come with nationwide after-sale services and the financial assistance offered by Siam Kubota Leasing.
Chamornwut expects Kubota’s mini-excavators to claim a good market share thanks to its integrated sale policy.
“After research and testing the market in Thailand for three years, we have received very positive feedback, especially in Bangkok and major provinces,” he said. “This year, we are going full-on with our marketing efforts, and we are planning to increase our dealers from 50 to 60 for nationwide coverage.
“By the end of this year, we are aiming to sell 1,000 mini-excavators, and in the third quarter we will launch a new model, the smallest excavator available in the Thai market. We are confident that our pricing is competitive enough to attract industrial investors.”
Siam Kubota is an official sponsor of Constech 2012, which is the biggest event in Thailand showcasing construction machinery. Its aim is to raise and create awareness among construction companies and investors.
