Thailand plans roadshow to Osaka, Japan

Industry Minister MR Pongsawat Sawasdivat will lead the Board of Investment's roadshow to Osaka, Japan, during June 27-30, with an aim to attract more investment in electronics and electrical appliances to Thailand.

He said today that Thailand is ready to be the production base of Japanese investors.
On June 28, in cooperation with Japan External Trade Organisation (Jetro) and Osaka chamber of trade and industry, a seminar on "Thailand's investment promotion policy" will be hosted. At the seminar, Pongsawat will give a speech on the Thai government's policy direction while  Deputy Transport Minister Chatchart Sithipan will provide detail on the government's water management strategy. Arkhom Termpittayapaisith, secretary-general of the National Economic and Social Development Board, will highlight investment-supportive factors like labour and infrastructure. Board of Investment Secretary-General Atchaka Sibunruang will reveal the agency's investment incentives and flood-rehabilitation measures. The seminar will also feature Minoru Furusawa, president of the Japanese Chamber of Commerce, Bangkok (JCC), who will shed light on Japanese investors' views on doing business in Thailand. The  Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC)'s Osaka Branch will then reveal the result of a survey on Japanese investors' investment plans.
"When the prime minister (Yingluck Shinawatra) was in Tokyo in March, over 1,000 Japanese investors attended the seminar. This time, we are going to the place where many Japanese SMEs are located, particularly those in the electronics and electrical appliance industry. Over 400 investors have confirmed participation, the highest number for a seminar hosted in this city," Pongsawat said.
During the roadshow, Pongsawat is also scheduled to meet with leading Japanese companies like Yunmar and Chugai Ro. He will also visit the Eco-Town in the city.
