Songs for the soul

Twenty-five years on, duo Byrd & Heart remain as popular as ever

Heavy rain last Saturday night did nothing to keep more than 2,500 fans from driving to Thunder Dome, Muang Thong Thani to celebrate the silver anniversary concert of much-loved duo Byrd & Heart though it did result in “Together” kicking off more than an hour late.
When the lights dimmed, Kullapong “Byrd” Bunnag was the first out on stage, singing “More n More” from the duo’s 1995 “Moonlighting” EP. He was soon joined by Suthipong “Heart” Thadpithakkul singing “Susan Joan”. The singers walked towards the audience and greeted their delighted fans.
Dressed smartly in tuxedos, the duo performed  “Hang Klai” and “Once Again” from the 1996 album “Thee Rak” in 1996, before introducing their first guest, Supawat “Champ” Peeranon who sang his hit “Rak See Som” and a new number “I Trust in You”, especially written for the concert.
Warot “O” Manosithisak was next up singing “Prakob Rak”, followed by Ganesha, who performed  “You”, “Little Arrows” and “Wedding Road” and Burin Boonvisut, who duetted with Byrd on “Fon”, before going solo for “Kueb”.
Byrd and Heart then swung into a series of hits including  “Ror Rak”, “Pher”, and “Jak Kan Duay Dee” as their old music videos played on the monitors. Trai “Boy” Bhumirat was the last guest, singing with the duo on “Mai Luem” and “Rak Thi Yang Mai Luem”, which he wrote for the pair.
The three-hour concert wrapped with  “Puean Kan” and “Rak Thi Yang Mai Luem” and a happy audience went out into a dry night.
