Agency makes it easier to register new businesses in deep South

Entrepreneurs will now be able to start up businesses in the deep South more easily as a result of a new Business Development Department registration process for the three provinces. Deputy Commerce Minister Siriwat Kachornprasart yesterday said that en

He said the number of new enterprises wishing to set up businesses in the three southernmost provinces had risen by about 10 per cent annually in recent years. The latest move by the agency is designed to make it easier to register new businesses in the region before a company moves in and commences operations.
Moreover, the department will extend the 50-per-cent reduction in the registration fee for new enterprises in the deep South for another five years. The privilege, which was introduced in 2005, had been due to expire at the end of this year.
Currently, 2,869 companies are registered to do business in the deep South. Of this total, 1,008 companies are in Yala, 987 are in Narathiwat and 874 in Pattani.
Each year, some Bt2.8 billion-worth of initial capital is invested in the three provinces.
The most popular businesses in the region are retailing, construction and property development, and services.
The minister added that to facilitate new enterprises in other regions, the department is also considering allowing more centralised business registration in the near future.
