World's best to fight for Turkish crown

Golf fans will keep their eyes glued to one of the world's most interesting golf events - the US$5.2 million Turkish Airlines World Golf Final this week at the Antalya Golf Club in Turkey - as the world's top two, Rory McIlroy and Tiger Woods, together wi

 

The World Golf Final is a tournament jointly organised by the Turkish Golf Federation and Turkish Airlines. Scheduled for October 9-12 in Belek Antalya, it is expected to attract great interest worldwide and will be televised live in more than 50 countries.
The tournament, to be played in a match-play format, will see world No 1 McIlroy; Woods, the world’s highest paid golfer, currently No 2; Charl Schwartzel, the South African who won the Masters in 2011; world No 4 Lee Westwood; No 20 Hunter Mahan; No 15 Matt Kuchar; Englishman Justin Rose; and youngster Webb Simpson, who is fresh from winning the US Open this year.
The eight players will have a practice round to acclimatise themselves with the course designed by Senior Tour professional Davis Jones today. The 18 holes stroke play first round will take place tomorrow and the match play games (quarter-finals) will be on Wednesday. The semi-finals will be on Thursday and the final on Friday. The winner will walk away with a $1.5 million purse, while the runner-up take home $1 million.
Semi-finalists will get $600,000, while fifth- and sixth-place winners will receive $450,000 each. While the seventh and eighth placers – the players who have not won a single match in the tournament – still get to pocket $300,000 each.
