Straight from the Sretsis Heart

When Pimdao Sukhahuta, the creative director of leading Thai brand Sretsis, was preparing her new collection for spring and summer 2013, she found herself looking back over the past decade and rooting around in the archives of her passion for design.
The result will have fashionistas jumping for joy. As in her debut collection 10 years ago, the highlight of “I Heart U, All Over Again” is a heart, but this time it is joined by two other iconic shapes: the horse and the arrow. And in keeping with a brand celebrating a decade of success, the outfits are noticeably more mature and stylish, particularly in the cut.
Speaking during the recent press preview held at the Cabachon Hotel, Pimdao revealed that she gone back to the very beginnings of Sretsis and her “Heart”, commenting with a smile that nothing short of an explosion of heartfelt ideas could have propelled Sretsis to the success that it enjoys today.
For “I Heart U, All Over Again”, Sretsis hearts are laid bare, stripped off flashy interpretations. They appear on various items as they are, staring out truthfully with naked souls.
Her newer key looks are also very creative and thus harder to copy.
“Sretsis has developed a special burn-out textile with a unique ‘heart-to-heart’ texture all over the fabric with a velvet heart embellishment as the highlight. Everyday shirts are spiced up with jewelled pins in the form of hearts and arrows, diamond hearts and horses. Timeless shirtdresses come in various fabrics from lace with heart cut-out details, jacquard linen and chiffon with satin collars,” she explains.
The ‘Love Patch’ series inspired by a grandmother’s love and sewn in single stitches on a quilted blanket gets a modern twist on shirts, shorts, dresses and playsuits. “The hours of patchwork now come without a fuss thanks to digital printing while the heart-warming print, pony patch shirts and lace patchwork also pay tribute to craftsmanship and the labour of love,” she adds.
Animals have long been a trademark of the Sretsis girls and over the years they have become increasingly cherished. These memorable mascots have always taken fantastical forms. However, for spring and summer 2013 collection, a horse is just a horse, not a unicorn or a Pegasus. But of course, the Sretsis horse is a majestic being in all its earthly glory.
With a deep sense of serenity combined with a touch of the Sretsis adventurous spirit, the collection leans towards relaxed composure, aiming to create timeless staple pieces rather than rambunctious show horses. Highly crafted yet subtle, the linen club blazers with lace linings can be worn with soft tailored collar shirts, paying homage to the impeccably dressed gentlemen of yesteryear. Ladylike, structured silhouettes are offset with Pony Galaxy rolled-up tees for a contrasting outcome while time honoured masculine tailoring is peppered with feminine lightness by high quality fabrics from fine linen, sheer cotton voile to dapper polka dot flock.
Thanks to the imaginative creation of Pimdao’s youngest sister, jewellery designer, Matina, the Matina Amanita for Sretsis jewellery collection reins in hearts and horses in a futuristic classic fashion. Reminiscent of that nervous excitement attached to the first ear piercing, earring sets come in packs, serving as essential pieces for every Sretsis girl. Horseshoes, ponies and cupid arrows turn into stack ring sets as lucky-in-love charms. For the perfect companion, the My Pony clutch follows you everywhere to keep your heart guarded.
“I use Swarovski crystals on the horse hair and tail so that the typical stiffness of these areas on a horse look as if it is loose and more relaxed,” says Matina.
To encourage fans to be clear-sighted in love, Sretsis is introducing “Sretsis e-y-e-s”, an eyewear line.
The first collection consists of Eye Heart and My Pony sunglasses. Both are in a flip-up style, and each comes in a three colour combo; Eye Heart in Kinder Heart, Black Heart and Tortoise; My Pony in Cremello, Pink Pony and Black Beauty.
