In love with Lanna
Chiang Mai, the unofficial Songkran Capital, is all set for Thailand’s much-loved water throwing festival, which gets underway this Sunday, almost a full week early. Lured by the romance of Lanna and a fun break, thousands of holiday-makers travel north to take part in the procession and bathing of Phra Buddha Sihing, watch the local Lanna women riding the kang chong (a Northern vehicle), bathing and paying respect to elders by pouring scented water on their hands and much, much more. Check out at the temples inside the city moat for a daily dose of celebrations. The festival lasts until April 16.
