Red Hat banks on 3 main sectors

Red Hat, a provider of open-source solutions, expects its business to continue to grow in Thailand as it focuses on three main areas - financial services, telecommunications and government.

 

Damien Wong, general manager for Asean of Red Hat, said it was dividing its business into five areas: open-source platforms, cloud computing, middleware, storage, and virtualisation solutions. It also provides solutions across physical, virtual and cloud environments that it claims reduce costs and add reliability and security. 
The company operates with a variety of business partners including original equipment manufacturers.
“Thailand is a fast-growing market with a growing economy. There is a lot of investment in financial services, telecom and government [projects]. The key drivers for business in Thailand are the cloud and mobility as well as social [networking] and collaboration,” Wong said. 
“The firm moreover continues to support information-technology infrastructure, enterprise and organisation. We bring innovation to our customers so that they will become more successful in their businesses.” 
Wong added that the firm was looking for business partners help it understand its customers’ needs better. Moreover, there are more customers using its open-source solutions such as Amazon.com, which utilises Red Hat to support its cloud services for its customers.
Guy Deffaux, vice president or IT at Krungsri, said the bank had utilised Red Hat to support its software infrastructure and develop Web applications. He said it had been able to reduce costs by about five times by investing in open-source software solutions. 
“We selected Red Hat [and] Linux as part of our dual-vendor strategy, as this platform delivers the same if not better quality and performance than its commercial equivalent, at a fraction of the cost,” Deffaux said.
