Everything old is new again

Everything old is new again

Having walked away from the director's chair for more than a decade, ML bandevanov "Mom Noi" Devakula reclaimed it with a vengeance, turning out three remakes of classics in four movies - 2010's "Chua Fah Din Salai" ("Eternity"), 2011's "Umong Pha Muang"

He believes he’s got a good thing going and he’s not about to change course, this time re-imagining another all-time favourite, “Phlae Kao” (“The Old Scar”). The romantic drama set in Bang Kapi a century ago will have Mom Noi’s protege Chaiyapol Julien Pupart – an outstanding supporting player in “Jan Dara” – taking his first turn in the lead, starring as Kwan.
No confirmation yet as to who will take the female lead, Riam, but the casting is just as crucial if Mom Noi wants to repeat the success that the late Cherd Songsri enjoyed with his stars, Sorapong Chatree and Nanthana Ngaokrajang .
Fans are a bit dubious about whether half-Belgian Chaiyapol can play Kwan, but few question his acting talent and, besides, luk krueng actors have done quite well in such well-known yarns as “Pee Mak Phra Khanong” and “Khu Kam”.

Poor guitar
Seeing Seksan “Sek Loso” Sukpimai smash his guitar into an amplifier at a show this week had people assuming it’s time for him to return to rehab, but the rocker appeared on Channel 3 the next day to insist that substance abuse isn’t the problem.
“I’m a gentleman, so when I say I quit, I mean I quit,” he declared. The guitar abuse was merely a surge of emotion. “I was just expressing my feelings – maybe it was too wild for some fans.” And maybe some Thais have never heard of such a thing, Sek speculated, pointing out that guitar-smashing is a revered rock tradition, citing Jimi Hendrix and Pete Townshend of the Who, among others.
Well, yes, a fan of splintered guitars countered on Twitter, but Sek’s just being a copycat, and that ain’t cool. For what’s cool, she said, check out “Best Guitar Smashes” on YouTube.
