Starbucks shows its commitment

Starbucks shows its commitment

The chain's newest Bangkok outlet will share the profits with Thai coffee growers

Celebrating 15 years in Thailand, Starbucks has announced it will double the number of outlets in the next five years. It’s also designating “profit-sharing” outlets where Bt10 from every beverage goes to the coffee farmers in the North.
President and chief executive Howard Schultz was in Bangkok recently to open the first Starbucks “community store” outside of the United States, in the Langsuan area. He said Thailand would play a critical role in the chain’s expansion in Southeast Asia.
“As I join the team today to celebrate 15 years in this market, there is an unparalleled passion that our partners demonstrate for delivering the Starbucks experience to our customers in Thailand,” Schultz said. “As we continue to grow, it is critical that we stay true to our 40 years of heritage, continuing to build our business with a focus on taking care of our people, creating moments of connection with our customers and giving back to the communities where we do business.
“The community store in Langsuan signifies our ongoing commitment to give back to the communities, and more specifically, to support and sustain local coffee and farming communities in Northern Thailand.”
Starbucks also has community stores in Los Angeles, New York and Houston, Texas, each assisting its local community in the recognition that everyone benefits when the community thrives.
