No Thais in Wimbledon singles event
Hopes of seeing a Thai player in singles action at Wimbledon evaporated on Wednesday when Tamarine Tanasugarn lost to Austrian seventh-seed Yvonne Meusburger in the second round of qualifying.
Despite her fondness for grass-courts, the 2008 quarter-finalist was unable to find her momentum and went down 6-4 6-2 to her 30-year-old opponent.
Tammy was the last of six Thai contenders in singles qualifying at the All England club, with men’s No 1 Danai Udomchoke also failing to make it to the main draw.
But Thailand still have representatives in the doubles – Tammy will be in the main draw on the women’s side while twins Sonchat and Sanchai Ratiwatana will challenge in the men’s competition.
