Battle of the showbiz agents

Battle of the showbiz agents

The betting (virtual and thus entirely legal) on whether newcomer Jirayu "James" Tangsrisuk can dethrone Nadech Kugimiya as Thailand's favourite actor has shifted focus to the relative abilities of their business agents

Can Chanchalat “Peck” Taweesap, representing James, pull off a coup over Nadech’s man Supachai “A” Srivijit?
Peck comes in for a lot of praise for his diplomatic skills. He used to do PR for government TV and does a nice job in press interviews – clear, clever and avoiding both controversy and any share of the spotlight. A is more experienced and has a lot more celebrities in his stable, but he’s no diplomat.
Here’s Peck in action. Asked about the huge fee James gets for doing ads: “Yes, it’s a lot, but it comes down to supply and demand. So many companies want him in their adverts. But once we accept, James has to do five to seven adverts.”
Asked whether James would soon earn more from ads than Nadech, Peck said he had no idea how much Nadech gets.
Asked if he’s grooming James to be “the king of presenters”, Peck said the top priority remains his contractual obligations to Channel 3 and James couldn’t flog more than 10 products at a time. “Some people accept 40 or 50 endorsements, but we wouldn’t go to that extent,” he said.
Well, Peck didn’t name names, but several of A’s clients do tonnes of advertising work. And meanwhile A often gets into legal rows with people, like former client Davika “Mai” Hoorne. After she was asked about their pending lawsuit, she said she’d “let the elders handle it” because she was “still a kid”, and A later mockingly repeated the same phrases, then pleaded ignorance about her comments.
“I never watch the news, so how would I know that?” he said. “But you can go ask the elders why I’m answered this way.”
And that, ladies and gentlemen, was the sound of another bridge being burned in A’s long career as a show-business arsonist.
