Online campaign against magazine

Online campaign against magazine

An online community campaign against Time's "Buddhist Terror" cover story that is targeting 50,000 signatures for a petition had surpassed the 42,000 mark yesterday.

The petition reads: “The combination of these two words ‘Buddhist’ and ‘Terror’ [bring a] very sad feeling for every Buddhist. We earnestly request that Time magazine [re-evaluate the choice of]  these two words in combination. I know the incidents happened. I am not a supporter of U Wirathu.
“Our Buddhism preaches peace but not terrorism. You [Time] are the first user of those words, so I really go against it. But those words will cause more tension between Buddhists and Islamists in Myanmar. Let’s create mindfulness in the society. I think this is not an article. It’s hate speech around the world.”
The petition was created by  Myanmar national Sai Thiha Z.
Joining Myanmar nationals in signing the petition are signatories from Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia, Cambodia, Japan, China, South Korea, India, the UAE, US, UK, Germany, Denmark, Switzerland, Brazil and Sweden.
