Tantalising travels for the taste buds

Tantalising travels for the taste buds

New restaurant Hemingway's offers food and drinks inspired by the great author himself

For several years, American businessman Craig Bianchini had been admiring the magnificent 1920s colonial style house on Sukhumvit Soi 14 that was home to a Mexican restaurant. Then last year, the restaurant decamped, leaving the house empty and crying out for love, Bianchini was quick to jump and renovate and now his first restaurant, Hemingway’s Bangkok Drinking and Dining, is attracting the business crowd.
Despite a background in chemical engineering and a lack of restaurant experience, Bianchini built this theme restaurant from the ground up, inspired by his favourite American author Ernest Hemingway’s flamboyant lifestyle. A constant traveller with a deep passion for good food and drinks, he turned the 100-year-old house into a bar and restaurant that pays tribute to the author’s great love for adventure and travel.
The building and grounds of this vintage, two-storey golden teakwood house offer an oasis for diners desperate to escape the
city’s hustle and bustle. There are several themed sections where guests can dine and drink, plus a lush Spanish-style garden for those who prefer the fresh air.
Earlier this week, Bianchini invited the media to indulge in his restaurant’s hearty menu, created by chef Wayne Morris using only the best local and imported produce. Highlights of the evening included charred hanger steak served Spanish tapas style with a selection of mushroom, red wine jus or pepper sauce, pan seared duck breast served with a duck rillette salad, herbs, orange and mango and Hemingway’s cheese cake.
Hemingway’s Bangkok also serves a variety of classic and signature cocktails ranging from classic mojito, papa doble daiquiri and cucumber daiquiri
