After adoption of prefab, Seacon keeps revenue goal

Home-builder Seacon Home Co has maintained its 2013 revenue target at Bt1.3 billion despite a slowdown in the economy and the continuing labour shortage.

Managing director Kobchai Sosothikul said the company had turned to a prefabrication system for pillars, beams, floors and walls. This system reduces the number of labourers needed for construction and allows the company to deliver finished homes to its customers on time.
“The home-construction business today is a lot different from 52 years ago. Most obvious is the higher number of construction companies for high-end homes than those for the masses. Now, the mass market is mainly the responsibility of small contractors. That is why we have had to develop our construction process to support current demand,” he said.
General manager Supitcha Chaipipat said that after the company adjusted its construction process to ensure deliveries to customers on time, it recorded sales worth Bt590 million in the first half of this year, having sold 49 Seacon Homes worth Bt390 million and 78 Compact Homes and Budget Homes worth Bt200 million.
Since people generally prefer the latter half of the year to make the decision to buy a house, the company is confident that it will achieve the full-year sales target of Bt1.3 billion.
She said demand for small homes was higher than last year, currently representing 60 per cent of total. However, the sales of small houses account for only 35 per cent of revenue.
Supitcha noted that consumers were more knowledgeable these days. They seek the best possible options for themselves. They research information about home-builders, home design, construction materials, and even some technical details about home construction. Then, once they have made a decision to buy, they talk to a home-builder firm about the details.
Having knowledgeable and experienced staff is something the industry cannot overlook.
Seacon Home regularly organises training for its staff so that they fully understand their job and can offer consultation to their customers.
