CK Power starts to operate Bang Pa-in plant commercially

CK Power Plc commenced commercial operations at phase 1 of its Bang Pa-in cogeneration power plant on June 28.

The power-development company, with operations in Thailand and elsewhere in Asean, will be ready to start supplying electricity to the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand under their 25-year power-purchase agreement.
Managing director Supamas Trivisvavet said yesterday that the company was committed to investing in power businesses that yield good returns and contribute to society and the country.
The commencement of commercial operations at the plant, besides helping to generate strong growth for CK Power in the second half of the year, also plays a vital role in enhancing domestic electricity generating capacity, he said.
The gas-fired plant, located in Bang Pa-in Industrial Estate in Ayutthaya, is run by Bangpa-in Cogeneration Co (BIC). The plant has total capacity of 117.5 megawatts and 19.6 tonnes per hour of steam, of which 90MW is contracted to Egat.
The remaining electricity and steam will be supplied to factories in the industrial park.
BIC has registered capital of Bt1.37 billion. Its shareholders comprise CK Power Plc with 65 per cent, PTT Plc with 25 per cent, the Industrial Estate Authority of Thailand with 8 per cent and the general public with 2 per cent.
The construction of phase 2, located in an area adjacent to the phase 1 plant, is expected to be complete and its commercial operations to begin in June 2017.
The phase 2 plant, with total capacity of 120MW and 20 tonnes per hour of steam, has a similar power-purchase agreement with Egat.
