Entertainment with a global edge

Entertainment with a global edge

Rihanna and Justin Bieber are among the big names coming to the Cotai Strip in Macao

As a reasonably frequent visitor to Macao, I’m always amazed at how much entertainment this island packs into such a small space.
Adding to the wealth of world-class casinos and beautiful Portuguese architecture are the shows hosted all year round by Sands Cotai at its palatial resort. This year’s events include concerts by Chinese and international pop stars, a world-famous circus and slam dunks from basketball dream team at The Venetian Arena.
For many visitors, and particularly those with kids, the highlight this summer is the DreamWorks Experience. Set in a spectacular themed setting at Sands Cotai Central’s Paradise Gardens, it starts with a meet and greet involving everyone’s favourite characters from “Shrek”, “Madagascar”, “Kung Fu Panda” and “How To Train Your Dragon”.
Every day at 4pm there’s a DreamWorks AllStar parade which sees the characters, dancers and performers grooving along with visitors!
And then there’s Shrekfast with the DreamWorks Gang, probably the most fun breakfast experience anyone will ever enjoy.
Once the sun sets, there’s a wealth of world class live events at the Venetian Arena, among them the hilarious Harlem Globetrotter basketball show.
Heading into town next month is Travis Pastrana’s Nitro Circus, which showcases more than 40 of the world’s best action sports athletes performing daring and often record-breaking tricks in freestyle motocross, BMX and skateboarding, along with heart-stopping stunts on unique contraptions. The troupe will be at Cotai Arena on August 17-18.
Barbadian singer Rihanna stops off at the Venetian as part of her “Diamonds World Tour” on September 13 and 14 followed by Canadian wonder kid Justin Bieber, who performs at Cotai Arena on October 12.
