Six Senses high on grapes

Six Senses high on grapes

Grape seeds add a health boost to a scrub at the spa's new Bangkok branch

EVERYONE WHO’S come to love the tranquillity and thoughtful array of fulfilling treatments at Six Senses spas at resort destinations all over Thailand are delighted that there is now a branch in downtown Bangkok as well.
Recently opened high up in the Pacific Two Building, the compact, urban spa adds to the anticipated uplift of the services with a spirit-lifting view of the city.
But it’s no less charming and peaceful for being located in the heart of the concrete jungle. On the contrary, it’s a true oasis of calm with decor that reflects Thai heritage – warm old wood and soft silk. It’s hassle-free, comfortable and pleasant, just as you would expect from any Six Senses spas.
The menu of treatments is a bit smaller than elsewhere, but still packed with essentials to perk you up and ease your tired body and mind. New and exclusive to the spa is a grape-seed body scrub that nourishes and exfoliates, leaving the skin soft, supple and luminous.
“We get the Syrah grape seeds from a Thai winery that adheres to the sustainability concept,” says a consultant. “The seeds are dried in the sun before becoming a key ingredient in the exfoliation process.”
The grape seeds are ground and mixed with oils of sweet almond, jojoba, sunflower, apricot and hazelnut. The concoction gently removes hair while the grape-seed oil penetrates deep into the skin to moisturise and nourish. You can immediately feel the difference.
Grapes are rich in Vitamin E and the natural antioxidants called phytochemicals, which is why wine and grape juice are also beneficial to your health. They reduce blood pressure and improve heart function, and antioxidant-rich food and beverages help maintain clear and youthful skin.
Oil extracted from grape seeds is used extensively to nurture dry, blemished skin to restore balance and natural elasticity. The mixture at Six Senses is made fresh before each 45-minute session, which costs Bt1,900.
The grape-seed scrub is recommended for all skin types and conditions. For specific skin types there are three other body scrubs – Vitality for all types, Clarity for combination and oily skin, and Calming for sensitive skin.
After a session you can be further pampered with one of Six Senses signature massages, with a choice on offer depending on what end results you hope for. “Holistic” is a full-body massage using gentle pressure and long strokes to bring deep relaxation. “Energiser” is a back massage with strong pressure applied to tense muscle. “Oriental” is adapted from Thai massage, zeroing in on the pressure points and using stretching and long and short strokes. It’s great if you’re quite stressed. An hour’s massage costs Bt2,700 and 90 minutes Bt3,500.
Also on offer are a deep-tissue massage, Indian head massage, Swedish massage, the Sensory Hot Stone Experience and the Sensory Spa Journey, as well as 30-minute treatments for the fee, back and neck and manicures and pedicures. There’s even a nap room with several beds for lovely little afternoon escapes!
