Kids swing on the swank side

Kids swing on the swank side

Versace, Gaultier and Ralph Lauren have some swell looks for children this autumn and winer

NOTHING IS as cute – or as lively – as a fashion show starring little kids. CMG’s Luxury Kids recently previewed autumn-winter outfits for young ones at the Grand Hyatt Erawan Bangkok, featuring six posh brands: Kenzo Kids, Little Marc Jacobs, Ralph Lauren Childrenwear, Paul Smith Junior, Young Versace and Junior Gaultier.
Among the diminutive celebrity models were Thee Thee, son of ML Ploynapat Leenutaphong, ML Oradis Snidvongs’ daughter Nina, Wipawee Korman’s twins Thi and Da, Yeepun, a niece of Kunnicha Puengboonpra, and August and Augar, the children of Nakorn Silachai. There for the finale were Piyada Chutarattanakul and her daughter Nava.
The girls’ clothing from Little Marc Jacobs is a blaze of red, burgundy and candy colours, with black making the silhouette more feminine. One dress was an autumn floral print, shown with a burgundy cardigan, cute sweatshirt and Peter Pan collar embellished with sophisticated details.
Boys can have fun in urban sportswear jazzed up with red and bright blue. A bat flits across an embroidered jacket and T-shirts, joined on Miss Marc tees by a deer.
The Paul Smith Junior collection has more fun with graphics, playing on the brand’s “typically British” dandy style, with unexpected linings, contrasting stitching and unique silkscreen prints. Kids can explore outer space in the neon hues of a glow-in-the-dark jacquard sweater a T-shirt with glowing green trim.
Chic suits and smart shirts go with more casual pieces like puffa jackets and sweatshirts in subdued grey, deep blue and black, brightened with neon touches.
There’s also an Indian look, plus wool knits, tweed and corduroy. The Paul Smith Junior girl does shopping in a blouse with a lace collar, high-waist dresses and beautiful old-fashioned floral prints. She might fancy a jacquard cardigan thrown over a ballerina skirt or chinos nicked from the boys.
The Young Versace collection is “glamour–chic” with original rock ’n’ roll detailing. Girls will love the animal prints in classic Versace baroque design. It’s all blurred shades from lemon yellow to violet on T-shirts, dresses, trench coats and close-fit leggings. The cowgirl look pays tribute to one of Gianni Versace’s themes of the 1990s, in which black has an impact on a chain print in delicate powder pink over fleece, chiffon and jersey.
For the boys, there’s vibrant Medusa Punk, an oversize street look with bright, colourful and amusing accents.
Kenzo Kids designers Carol Lim and Humberto Leon take the youngsters into the jungle, a joyful mix of urban and ethnic references in an explosion of patterns and a dynamite colour palette. The tiger is a key element, prowling on sweatshirts, sweater dresses and even baby togs. College preppy and sporty chic styles are twisted with an updated jeanswear look – a tartan miniskirt worn with a terry sweatshirt and a jacquard knit sweater with nylon patches.
Ralph Lauren re-imagines preppy classics for back to school. Neutral and rich autumn hues appear amid luxurious fabrics and chic patterns. There are cool polo shirts updated in fun colours with new patches and sporty graphic tees.
Fleece becomes essential in a baseball jacket and hoodie, and rugby shirts in full fall colours bear a “P” logo.
Jean Paul Gaultier’s jungle is all urban, where a playful mix of reworked camouflage prints, faded denim pieces and bubble dresses in cuddly fleece await.
This is pure street style, casual and relaxed. For girls there are harem jeans, graffiti skirts and zippered leather jackets in grey, black and blue pepped up with intense coral and metallic blush.
Scottish tartan, a Gaultier classic, turns up with a twist on jackets, quilted dresses, berets and pleated skirts in a chic version of schoolhouse rock. And Gaultier’s sailor shirt bears a stylised Eiffel Tower.
