Panel to study bilateral trade

Panel to study bilateral trade

A joint Thai-China subcommittee will look into boosting bilateral trade of agricultural goods, including rubber and rice, as well as other products, Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra said upon returning from her official visit to China.

Yingluck told reporters that the possible purchase of Thai rubber had been continuously discussed with the Chinese ambassador in Bangkok and that during her visit, Beijing had agreed to set up a joint panel to find ways of furthering trade. This would include the bartering of Thai agricultural goods for Chinese technological products. However, Yingluck failed to say exactly how much China might be willing to buy.
“Actually China needs millions of tonnes of rubber every year. If we talk about mechanisms, I believe we will have more concrete ones. I want the Commerce Ministry to coordinate and know that the Chinese government is happy to support the private sector in purchasing and investing,” she said.
